There are loads of green smoothies in the blog world these days, and we’ve tried quite a few of them, but this is one we made up based on some of our favorites. It’s great for breakfast or for post-workout fuel. It’s named the super food smoothie because it has 4 super foods: hemp seeds, chia seeds, flax seeds and kale. This smoothie has no artificial ingredients, 3300 mg of omega 3s, 14 grams of protein, 5 grams of fiber and 130% of your daily needs in vitamin A and C. And it’s only around 300 calories. Waaat. AND the only thing you have to do is throw a bunch of things into a blender!
1 frozen banana
1 cup of kale
1 T of each: hemp seeds, flax seeds, chia seeds
1/2 an apple
1/2 cup of almond milk
3-5 ice cubes
If you have a super powered blender, like a Vitamix, you can toss all the ingredients in there at once, but if it’s less powerful you should blend everything up in increments. Frozen bananas and mangoes tend to make smoothies creamier, so sometimes I will substitute the banana for a cup of frozen mango! If you’re looking for an added boost of protein, you can add in a scoop of a nut butter of your choice, or some protein powder.
